The System Administrator (SA) is responsible for aiding in the effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the Corporation. This individual helps to ensure that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values, enabling staff and customers.

This individual will assist project teams with technical issues throughout the project life-cycle. This individual will work with the Senior System Administrator and, as a team, will be responsible for Linux and Windows platforms that support the corporate and project infrastructure. Responsibilities on these platforms include engineering, provisioning, operations, support, maintenance and research to ensure continual improvement.

Technical Skills

  • Microsoft Windows infrastructure - Windows Server 2008, WINS, DNS, Active Directory, IIS, GPOs, WSUS ( Windows Server Update Services)
  • Windows Exchange 2013
  • Microsoft Windows 7, 10 and Office 2010 desktop environment
  • Firewall (Fortinet), VPN, Networking and Wireless administration
  • Domains, SSL certificates, DNS
  • Linux (Ubuntu, CentOS), Postfix, Apache
  • Backup software (Backup Exec)
  • Virtual Server (VMware ESXi )
  • Antivirus (Kaspersky), Malwarebytes
  • VOIP phone system (Positron)
  • Knowledge of MS SQL, MySQL
  • Ability to read and write code - basic scripting (PHP, Python, Powershell)
  • Drupal and WordPress support, installation and migration
  • Certifications e.g. A+, Network+, MCP/MCSA, MCSE

Responsibilities

The System Administrator will aid the Senior System Administrator to:

  • Support the existing network infrastructure, desktops and servers, disaster-recovery systems and IT/WAN Infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted 24/7 operations
  • Manage, administer, monitor and report on networking services and systems including Windows and Linux infrastructures, Exchange, Active Directory, WSUS, Antivirus, Wireless, VPN, Firewalls, Virtual Servers (VMware ESXi), Domains and SSL certificates
  • Ensure the operational security of network infrastructure, servers and desktop systems by monitoring for intrusions, providing virus protection defenses and securing all servers from unauthorized use
  • Recommend upgrades or new technologies to improve infrastructure efficiency, quality and security of IT systems and services by researching and evaluating new technologies within the scope of the IT plan
  • Participate in the design, planning and implementation of technology to support company-wide IT initiatives
  • Provide technical assistance, direction and training to the user base related to the desktop and server environment as well as 2nd level support for Administrators and Support personnel
  • Be available for afterhours “on-call” support
  • Other related duties as required
